Zoonosis

A zoonosis is a disease or infection which is naturally transmitted from vertebrate animals to humans and vice versa (Toma et al., 1991, [glossary of animal epidemiology] (in French). Ed. Point Vétérinaire, 365 pages). Different domestic species may be the source of zoonotic diseases:

Zoonotic diseases can be transmitted to humans through direct contact with infected animals, through the intermediary of a vector, or through consumption an animal product (meat) or by-product (eggs, milk). Veterinary medicine is a profession which presents risks in terms of these zoonoses. Several precautionary measures should therefore be followed to prevent the risk of contamination.
